Thelonius James
"The Sunland Chronicles"

CD Notes & Reviews

Notes Via CDBaby

T.J. Sullivan returns with another look at life entitled The Sunland Chronicles. These stories are a focused group of tunes of Joy & Desperation written through the eyes of Thelonius James. A year in the making, The Sunland Chronicles enlists the familiar rhythm section of the incredible Phil Bloch and Mark "Pocket" Goldberg. Phil Bloch lends his considerable talent as a Producer along with Engineer Extraordinaire and Co-Producer, Andrew Bush.

Some Heavyweight Talent was brought in to augment this Rootsy Group of Original Tunes. Terry Evans lends his amazing vocal talents along with Veteran Session men Matt Margucci, Jimmy Cox and Dr. Jay Stolmack. There's even a Guest Appearance by the King of Blues & Swing, Sunlands' own Johnny Williamson! All songs are penned by T.J. with the help of fellow writers, Pocket Goldberg & Oscar Jordan on Stuck in the Mud Blues and Chicken Pie respectively.

This CD also contains three Instrumentals which add much Color and Depth to the overall feel of the Sessions. If you enjoyed The Adventures of Thelonius James, you will be sure to Dig this CD from beginning to end!

This CD is even better than the last. I listen to it over and over. What an amazing songwriter this guy is, and his guitar playing is astonishing. If "Nothing Matters" doesn't show up in a movie, I'll eat Thelonius's hat!

Blues Power CD Review.... Thelonius James Presents The Sunland Chronicles!

Here at BluePower, we are always on the lookout for what we feel is inspired product. We receive so many CDs that just don't go that extra step to make the music different and unique. This CD is the best of both of those worlds.

Thelonius James Presents The Sunland Chronicles is a piece of work which contains all the elements necessary to make it an outstanding contribution to the world of American music. It has great playing and a sense of humor which can only be attributed to the artist involved.

There is something exciting going on with this record. A spontaneity which transcends most releases today. Trying to explain this is difficult. It's something one has to hear. All we know is that when we listened to the material....we enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Sunland Chronicles runs the gamut musically, stretching from the blues to near jazz. Fine playing and vocals with nothing too heavy or intense. Just a real good feel. Overall....this CD is a lot of fun and a guaranteed party pleaser.

It made me smile.
