The Twisters
"Come Out Swingin'"
(Northern Blues)

I give this CD, my highest rating, Five *****
Excellent CD...  Thoroughly enjoyed it...  Highly Recommended...

From a 1950's Rockabilly Feel to their signature Swing Style Blues, The Twisters new release, "Come Out Swingin'" has far surpassed any of my expectations. From tragedy to triumph, The Twisters were not content to just hit a home run with "Come Out Swingin'", no they decided that nothing less than a Grand Slam would be acceptable, and boy oh boy did they ever hit one of those.

"Come Out Swingin'" is, and excuse the pun, one hell of a knock out album, one which I believe will rocket The Twisters to a whole new league of the own, leaving all whom may of have been their closest rivals, in the dust.

"Come Out Swingin'" is the most diversified and the most intriguing release to date by Canada's King Of Swing, a complete and thorough crowd and fan pleaser, one which will certainly receive all the accolades and awards it deserves.

Now if you will please excuse me, I'm going to throw "Come Out Swingin'" back in the CD Player for yet another listen...

Other Reviews and Info

The Twisters are Canada’s premier jump/blues band. Period. This is their second CD for NorthernBlues Music and it’s a tremendous follow-up to their critically acclaimed After the Storm.

Come Out Swingin’ stays true to their high-spirited jump/blues tradition, but includes many new grooves and feels—and includes special guest Kenny “Blues Boss’ Wayne, on piano—the 2006 JUNO Award winner for Best Blues Album.

“This is what modern Blues is all about. Tight arrangements, great vocal harmonies, and spot on yet understated instrumental performances. All with a firm foothold into the roots and tradition of the Blues. With one exception, a Sonny Boy Williamson tune, the CD is packed with all original tunes that bring freshness and spontaneity to the sometimes over worked playbook of the Blues. A fantastic musical statement." - Barrelhouse Blues e-news, Boston

Nominated for a JUNO Award in 2003 for Best Blues Album, and WINNER of the Canadian Independent Music Awards in 2003 for Blues Album of the Year.

• The Twisters features Dave Hoerl—one of Canada’s foremost harmonica players. Nominated in 1997, 1998, 2003, and 2005 for Harmonica Player of the Year by the Toronto Blues Society.

In 1982 David came to Canada with Kenny Wayne, and became a landed immigrant in 1986. In Canada he has recorded with Powder Blues, Valdy, Gary Fjellgaard, and played on numerous jingles and commercials.

As the founding member and sole remaining original Twister, he has received numerous accolades and awards for songwriting, vocals and harmonica playing, including being nominated in 1997, 1998, 2003, 2005, 2006, and 2007 for "Harmonica Player of the Year" by the Toronto Blues Society's "Maple Blues Awards". Brandon Isaak - Guitar, Vocals

This young red haired guitar player has monster tone and technique. He moved from his hometown of Whitehorse, Yukon to Vancouver, BC in 1999, where he joined the Twisters. He has shared the stage with many great blues artists, including Taj Mahal, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, Robben Ford, Canned Heat, Jeff Healy, Big Dave McLean, Rusty Zinn, Colin Linden just to name a few. Brandon toured all over Europe with Joe Louis Walker, Willie Hayes and Ken Faltonson on numerous festivals and TV shows.

Brandon played guitar on the 2006 Juno Award-winning album "Let It Loose" with Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, and appears on 11 albums with many different artists. When he plays, he travels to a different time and space. You can hear it as well as see it.

"Brandon Isaak is unquestionably a superstar in the making, playing with tone, imagination and taste"

Matt Pease - Drums

Matt has been working professionally as a drummer for over 20 years, and credits his hard swinging style to his early influences Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. Matt grew up in a musical family with a large record collection on Vancouver Island. He moved to Vancouver in 1997, after which he toured with the Michael Kaeshammer Trio in the DuMaurier Jazz Festival. Shortly thereafter he hooked up with Juno Award winner Lee Aaron for three years. Matt has also played with Juno Award winners Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne and Hugh Fraser. He's jammed with Angelo Moore (Fishbone) and members of the Brand New Heavies, and has played with artists such as Daniel Lapp, Ross Taggert, and Marc Atkinson (The Bills). He has shared a stage with Edgar Winter, the Wailers, Green Day and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. Matt studied with the great Canadian drummers Claude Ranger and Don Leppard. He joined the Twisters in early 2005.

Keith Picot - Bass Fiddle

Unforgettable is what a performance by stand-up bassist Keith Picot is. Better bass players one will encounter but a bass player who gives more of himself and is such a joy to watch is decidedly much harder to find. Whether singing and leading his own band, or supporting the talent of such bands as: The Twisters, Cousin Harley, Joe Dollar and Juno Award winner Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, he always gives 110 percent. With a hard hitting slap style all his own he can drive a beat like the devil, then equally and effortlessly draw out the sweet tones of a saint. You are guaranteed pleasure when watching Keith Picot do what he loves to do.
