Shane Dwight
"Plays The Blues"

I give this CD, my highest rating, Five *****
Excellent CD...  Thoroughly enjoyed it...  Highly Recommended...

Had my name been Yoda, there would of only been one conclusion to Shane Dwight's newest release "Playing The Blues" and that is "Disappointment Find You Will Not".

"Playing The Blues" starts out as an interesting Album, quickly becoming intriguing, then shifting gears to intense and finishing off with just shear excitement, thanks in part to the great layout which is 10 original songs, the first 5 done studio style and the last 5 done live. That in itself is a interesting concept which truly gives you the feel of just how great of a showman and guitarist Shane is. Kind of wish more artists out there would take a lesson from Shane and start mixing up their Albums with more live music as well.

To further show Shane's amazing depth, musically and creatively, he was not content to just put out 1 Album, no he decided to get 2 out there simultaneously and throw in a national tour for good measure.

With Shane Dwight now firmly affixed on the Blues and Blues/Rock radar, fans can now be assured that the future of that particular Genre and Style, has just gotten a little brighter.

This is my first introduction to Shane's music and I simply can't wait to hear more.

Reviews and Info

Shane Dwight PLAYS THE BLUES features ten original blues songs, the kind of high-octane performances that have made Shane a standout at countless festivals and clubs across the US and Europe.

Half of the tracks are live recordings, showing exactly what drives his legions of fans crazy night after night. Studio tracks (featuring guest appearances by Gold Record Producer and harmonica player Richard Rosenblatt, and Bob Margolin of Muddy Waters fame) show Shane to be a soulful blues singer, songwriter and guitarist of the highest order. "... In spite of 'old' influences, Shane Dwight is anything but dated ... Dwight hops up crowds wandering in from both hip-hop and rock clubs ... He's
been known to incite the girls to crazy-wild behavior." (Metro Silicon Valley)

Shane Dwight has done it again! Another great album from an awesome artist. Shane Dwight rocks the house on his live songs and is a MUST SEE live! The electricity in the air when he and his band perform is incredible. Great job on the new cd, looking forward to lots more!!!! CD Baby

Blues music has taken some new shapes in recent years. From the earthy guitars and the equally earthy lyrics of Chuck Berry and the soulful voice of Ray Charles, the genre has become more commercialized and slick, thanks to the music of talented musicians such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson and many others. Shane Dwight has continued that tradition, playing in the same style of distorted electric guitars that the bluesmen of the '80s, '90s and early 2000s. But there is something else about him too, a reverence for the old blues of yesterday, a fact that becomes clear in his latest album “Plays the Blues.”

The track list reads like an update and homage of blues standards of the past. The opening tune, “Bad News Morning,” is a typical blues lament. The narrator complaining of his numerous woes and suggesting that it’s all because of "something I’ve done," though he doesn’t specify what that is. "You’re Gonna Want Me" is no different with a vanilla story of one man’s romantic breakup, and his plea for his baby to come back. But where other artists would stay with the proven formula, Dwight tweaks it, bringing the blues into the modern day. Witness the sexy, sly tribute to a promiscuous and hard to please woman in “Pretty, Young and Mean,” or his studio cut “Standing.”

While Dwight shines as a guitarist, his real talent is as a showman, and the many live tracks on the album demonstrate that. Listening to him engage in a little call and response with fans on “Pretty, Young and Mean” brings to mind some of the earthier blue, jazz and gospel acts of ages past. Combine that with his killer licks and it’s only a matter of time that he’s crowned as the heir apparent to Stevie Ray Vaughan, who he resembles closely in terms of musical style. Even with the rock n’ roll theatrics, he still makes time to pay tribute to old fathers of the genre, such as Albert King for whom “Ode to Albert” was released.

“Plays the Blues” is a must have for any blues fan.

Rising Blues Artist Shane Dwight Makes National Recording Debut

Guitarist Shane Dwight made his national recording debut in June with the release of, not one, but two albums of original blues-rock tunes. But Shane's passion for singing, songwriting and playing guitar doesn't end with the blues.

With the simultaneous release of two new albums and a tour schedule boasting more than 200 shows this year alone, Shane Dwight admits he doesn't have a lot of time to chat. But, ask him about his favorite subject, playing guitar, and he will give you all the time in the world.

Shane says his introduction to music began at home in a small town just south of San Jose, California.

"Early on, my family just loved a bunch of music," he explains. "My dad really listened to a lot of blues and old, early country, Hank Williams. My grandfather loved a lot of really old ragtime and country, and I listened to a lot of that when I was a kid. My grandmother was in love with Elvis. She always played Elvis Presley, and he would always play Johnny Cash. My dad was always playing Hank , Jr, and Hank, Sr. My Mom was always playing Bob Seger, and my sister was always playing everything from Ozzie Osborne to Prince, and everyone had their own music that they liked. So I just grew up with records and CDs of all kinds of different styles of music."

Shane's own songwriting style hinges on one of the most basic rules of composing: Keep it simple.

"If it's a good song that gets to the point, I'll love it. I don't really care if it's some expert virtuoso doing it as long as it gets to the heart of the matter," Shane admits.

Naturally, Shane's greatest musical influences are guitarists, who he says straddle both rock and blues.

"As far as the top guitar players, I'd say David Gilmour for guitar sound, Albert King, Stevie Ray , Jimi Hendrix, Albert Collins, Robert Lockwood, Junior and cats like that, that backed up all those great blues artists and were great blues artists themselves," he says. "Just the sounds they got on those instruments were so distinct."

Shane recently moved from Northern California to Nashville, Tennessee. He says living in "Music City" makes it possible to tour the eastern half of the U.S. more often, while keeping his core band intact.

"I try to keep a band together. I try to keep a group of guys working together as long as you can, because then it gets really special," Shane says. "There's nothing like being able to just turn your head and the whole band knows what you're about to do."

Shane Dwight's new studio album is titled Gimme Back My Money, while his second release, Shane Dwight Plays The Blues, features five tracks recorded live in California and Oregon. The Journal Of Turkish Weekly

About Shane Dwight

Northern California native, now Nashville-based, Shane Dwight is a young American Roots Music artist for the 21st century – a killer blues player who can rock the house all night long with the best of them, and an introspective singer-songwriter whose voice rings true at alt-country, Americana, R&B, and flat-out Rock N Roll. There is no pigeonhole for Shane Dwight, and no single corral can hold this bucking bronco. Shane’s talent is so fierce and his inspiration so strong that his music draws in equal measure from classic blues and urban R&B, from alt-country and modern rock without compromising his integrity or missing a beat.

Shane Dwight cut his teeth on the rough and tumble East Side of San Jose California, where his natural talents were influenced by the neighborhood’s diverse musical undercurrents. He became proficient at various styles, and played in jazz and rock bands before finding his groove with the blues. Shane’s popularity spread quickly, and in 2002 he easily won the Monterey Blues Festival Battle of the Bands. Since that time Shane has released several self-produced CDs and kept up a hectic schedule, appearing at countless clubs and festival Main Stages including Florida’s “Springing the Blues” Festival , Monterey Blues Festival, the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival, the San Diego Blues Festival, and many more; Shane’s energetic performances and charismatic appeal have made him a repeat performer on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruises; Shane provided the house band for the nationally televised “Microsoft Insider Live”, appeared twice as a featured guest on Elwood Blues’ House of Blues Radio Hour, and received airplay on hundreds of radio stations worldwide.

Recently, Shane moved to Nashville, Tennessee and signed with the prestigious Intrepid Artists booking agency. This year he’ll be performing over 150 shows throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. On June 23, 2009 he will be releasing his first TWO internationally-distributed CDs. Shane Dwight’s rocket is definitely on the rise, and this is shaping up to be a one hell of a year for this genre-busting artist.
