Saturday Nite Mojo "Neighborhood Sweetie"

Info & Reviews

Saturday Nite Mojo are a bunch of guys who really know how to lay down the Blues, Rock, and Southern Rock. They prove this, in superb fashion, with their Debut Release "Neighborhood Sweetie".

"Neighborhood Sweetie" will take you back a few years to that great feel you got from Rock and Blues bands in the 70's, like the Allman Brothers and ZZ Top to name a few. The music is not over worked, it comes through with a nice real edge, gritty in fact, each instrument steppin up throughout the Album, doing it's thing and then moving over for the next one to take over, all beautifully interlaced with great vocals.

Saturday Night Mojo is a extremely diverse band with all members participating in the writing of all the songs either individually or as a whole and is a big reason "Neighborhood Sweetie" is such a good offering of Blues, Rock, and Southern Rock.

I really enjoyed "Neighborhood Sweetie" and highly recommend it to anyone whom likes Blues, Rock, and Southern Rock played with the great feel of albums past. I am really looking forward to their next release.

Review by John Vermilyea (Blues Underground Network)

OK, are you ready for some down and gritty Rockin’ Blues? Here’s your chance. Saturday Nite Mojo's Debut CD "Neighborhood Sweetie". When I kept hearing their cut "Just the Way We Like It" on Ashtabula's 107.5 The FOX's 'North Coast Lix' show, I wondered when it was coming out.

Saturday Nite Mojo is four guys who come from different musical backgrounds. Each member brings his own unique style to the band in the genres of Blues, Rock, and Southern Rock just to name a few. This album contains songs that were individually written by each member as well as collectively written songs by the band.

Let’s meet the band; Denny Kilsuric, guitar and vocals from Parma has been playing guitar since 1981. Joe Piete, guitar and vocals has been playing his axe since age 14. Drummer, Ed Durma, became interested in the Blues when he was 5 years old. He’s started playing drums when he was 9. Last but not least, bassist “ Plain Ole Ray ” Fisher first picked up the bass in the summer of 1970. Forming out of the band The Porkchops, they began writing their own material and became Saturday Nite Mojo .

Starting out with the title tune "Neighborhood Sweetie" it's about a hot girl they all knew back in high school they never had a chance with but now she is ready to ‘rock and roll.’ It’s got a driving lick that was inspired by Hendrix. "I Ain’t Lyin'" is a gritty blues shuffle intros with fuzz guitar leads and sounds like Cream meets George Thorogood. "Fool No More" is a slow blues with a positive outlook when none seems apparent in the short term. Some really cool slide guitar leads in this one. "Boston" is a minor key rocking Blues singing out to a lost love he can’t forget. "Nobody Got Dem Blues" is a shuffling blues that’s doesn’t discriminate anyone getting the blues in severe fashion. "Ashtabula Blues" a slow blues about a bank not loaning out any money because they thought the guy wanting to borrow was his dead father. Only in Ashtabula, right? Time to pack your bags and get out! The last couple of songs were collectively written by the band. "Old Black Moe" has got a really cool galloping beat and some amusing dialogue in the middle of the song. The guitar work in this one displays some nice light touches. The final tune "Never Givin' Up" is a rocking instrumental which was described as The James Gang meets The Allman Brothers. That’s actually a good analogy. I’ll bet that’s a real crowd pleaser! The band recently informed me "Never Givin' Up" is being played in a few stadiums and arenas around the country ( Fenway Park, Classic Park, UIC Pavilion, & Cleveland Browns Stadium... to name a few )!

Well, here you have a party CD with the kind of Rock and Blues that very well may go with beer and whiskey. You can grab "Neighborhood Sweetie" at www.cdbaby.com. You can also keep up with SNM at www.myspace.com/saturdaynitemojo.
