Ron Campbell & The Blues Busters "Bust Out!"

I am sure we have all been there, at blues shows, or any other type of music, where as soon as the band starts playing, the dance floor immediately starts to fill up. Ron Campbell & The Blues Busters are such a band and to verify that fact, all you need to do is listen to their newest release "Bust Out".

"Bust Out!" is what I like to call an Anticipatory Album, which means it is an Album of such uniquely diverseness, that the first time you listen to it, you find more and more anticipation building for the next Track. A T-Rex Special with every song sounding the same, this Album is not.

"Bust Out!" consists of 12 Tracks, all originals and all written solely by Ron Campbell except for the first Track, "A Little Too Long" which he shares co-writing with Laura Buschler. The songs are mostly Blues, but they do have a few other feels to some of them, such as the moving Gospel "No Other King Like Mine", backed up with a wonderful choir. The opening Track "A Little Too Long", has a little Country/Knopfler feel to it and "John The Bear", has a straight 70's Ballad feel to it. "Bust Out!" is one of the more diverse Albums I have heard in quite a while.

As mentioned earlier, Ron Campbell did the songwriting but that is not where his talents stop, he also sings on many of the Tracks, as well as, plays Harp, Guitar, Dobro, Percussion, Drums, and Keyboards. Now wait, it doesn't stop there either. He recorded the Album in his own home studio, and did the mixing, mastering and manufacturing of it as well. A truly home grown effort.

Accompanying Ron Campbell on this fine production, on either a few or all the Tracks are, Glyn Evans (Vocals), Gino Consentino (Keyboards), Glen McMurray (Bass/Vocals), Neko Peterson (Drums), Jon Hemmingway (Keyboards), Ron Irving (Bass), Ron Briggs (Drums), Rob Reed (Drums), and Roy Carson (Bass).

I found "Bust Out!" to be a really really enjoyable Album to listen to, made even more so with the fact that they are a Canadian Band, a further testament to the immense musical talent this Country has.

I highly recommend you give Ron Campbell & The Blues Busters "Bust Out!" a try... I don't think you will be disappointed, in the least. A fine Album to slip into the mix when having a party, people will take notice...

Other Info And Reviews

Brand New
"Bust Out!" by Ron Campbell & the bLUES bUSTERS is my fourth (and newest) CD.   It's quite different from my first 3 albums, which were acoustic solo efforts.   On "Bust Out!" I play electric guitar, backed by a 5-piece band - we rock it out!

All Originals
There are 12 songs on the album, all written by me.   The very first song, A Little Too Long sets the mood with its good-time party vibe.

Amazing Variety
I love the blues.   But there are many different styles of blues, which I've explored on "Bust Out!"   Mostly, the bLUES bUSTERS play straight-ahead blues-rock.   But here we've included some acoustic folk-blues, some cool jazz and lush ballads, some funk, some classic Chicago Blues - there's even a hint of country influence!

Special Guests
Most of the playing here is by the bLUES bUSTERS: me on guitar, Glyn Evans on vocals, Gino Cosentino on keyboards, Glen McMurray on bass and Neko Peterson on drums.   On one song, however, we are joined by The EnsemBelles, a 12-piece women's choir.   This was my first attempt at writing choral music (with some help from choir director Nancy Hollmann) - I think we did a pretty good job of getting that good old Gospel sound on my song No Other King Like Mine.

True Story
Another song I'm quite proud of is John The Bear.   It's based on the exploits of a famous bank robber in the 1930s, but I've given the tale a surprise ending with a unique Canadian twist.

Purely Homegrown
The CD was recorded in my home studio, Dirt Road Studio.   The recording, mixing, mastering and manufacturing were all done by: me   It's amazing what can be accomplished with a limited budget (and a LOT of work!).   After more than 40 years as a professional musician, "Bust Out!" is my best album yet, and I'm very proud of it - I hope you like it!  Ron Campbell

...Bust Out! is a rollicking and rowdy blues-rock album that sticks to the basics but also knows how to stretch its wings and experiment a little.   There's some folk-blues in the mix, along with a little funk, jazz, gospel and a smattering of country, all performed with the Campbell touch.   The lyrics and raucous nature of A Little Too Long set the tone for a down-home album that really goes back to the basics of blues and all its influences ... A highlight of the album is Reminiscin', a light, playful walking blues, itself reminiscent of Les Paul or Chet Atkins.   Campbell's talent as a guitar player shines on the track, which features some great old-school licks and real sweet tone.   ... John The Bear is a tight folk-blues track with a harmonized, Crosby, Stills and Nash-esque singalong-worthy chorus and soaring acoustic accompaniment. Ron Campbell delivers the blues.

...A Little Too Long has the catchiest hook you'll find anywhere, anytime.   It's a stunner!'

About Ron Campbell

For more than 40 years, I've been making music and entertaining audiences. I've toured professionally all over BC in various bands and as a solo artist (and have been privileged to play with many of Canada's finest musicians); and I've released 4 CDs. You can download my CDs (and individual songs) here.

These days, guitar is my main instrument, though I also get a fair number of gigs playing drums or keyboards. I play bass and harmonica too.

My musical taste runs to the "rootsy" styles: classic rock, country, jazz and older pop. I especially love all forms of blues. As a songwriter, I value strong melodies and tight, well-structured lyrics.

Music is my passion, and I'm constantly looking for new challenges. Got a project in mind? - Call me! Meanwhile, look around the site, and enjoy the tunes. Thanks for visiting!
