Just the Blues Thank You, The Rawer The Better, is what
Nasty Ned is all about and it just doesn't get any Bluesier or Rawer
then Nasty's newest release, Roots 52.
Drawing from a career that spans over 6 decades, Nasty Ned
doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the Blues, he plays it from the heart
which you can quickly sense by way of his vocals and his mighty fine harmonica
playing.
Roots 52 is essentially a Blues Lovers dream, an album in which
you the listener, feel that Nasty is performing a show just for you, on your
back porch, just like the good old days, when the blues and the artists whom
sang them were as real as they got. This is of course a special treat that many
of the more modern blues artists have, at times, forgotten about.
Nasty Ned is expertly backed up by 3 other fine musicians,
Michael Krizan (Electric Guitar, National Steel Body Guitar), Junior Bradfield
(Electric and Doghouse Bass), and Steve "Little Leroy" Pozelanti
(drums), all of whom when asked to, have no problem stepping up to the bat and
melding, as one tight cohesive group.
Roots 52 is probably as pure of a recording anyone can come by, as Nasty used no track stacking, no over dubbing, no punching, and no fixing
in creating it, a further testament, not only to Nasty's respect for the trueness
of the music, but his respect for the listeners, as well.
Roots 52, will no doubt, be one of the top releases mentioned
for 2010, when the accolades and awards start coming in, though I doubt that
that is a primary concern for Nasty Ned, as I believe his reward comes more from
the giving of the Blues and less from the taking of the Kudos'.
I give this CD's, my highest rating, Five ***** Excellent CD...
Thoroughly enjoyed it... Highly Recommended...

Other Info
Dedicated to Honeyboy Dupree and Miss Kimmy, ROOTS 52 is Nasty Ned’s Finest Blues Yet!
Nasty Ned’s ROOTS 52, already being heralded a "powerful recording", leans on post-war Muddy and Wolf type shoutin’ blues, yet it's armed heavily with reverence, expansion and abandon.
In fact, Nasty Ned’s ROOTS 52 is a throw back to post-war Muddy and Wolf type shoutin’ blues. It’s as close to a recording from 1952 as you’ll hear made today. Old school on purpose. And here, Ned blows and sings his heart out all in one motion, all on the same takes, just as he loves doing on stage.
ROOTS 52 contains no track stacking, no over dubbing, no punching and no fixing… it’s just honest to goodness, sweat drenched, live blues performing.
ROOTS 52 comes complete with comprehensive liner notes, a
personal note from Ned. artist, song and session info and artist photos in a
four panel eco-friendly package. Produced by Ben Elliott & Nasty Ned at
Showplace Studios, Dover, NJ.

About Nasty Ned
blues harp, big voice, will travel.
Nasty Ned is a roots-rockin' blues man who celebrates the music.
Enjoying a career that spans six decades, Nasty Ned has burned the hottest stages in America with the coolest cats and kittens in the world.
Ned enjoys taking live, unrehearsed performance into the recording studio. He says, "It's about the joyous noise, the electrification, sensation, connectay-tion, story-tellin' temptation, and jes plain doin' the do... you know, havin' a good time diggin' roots, and playin' dem deep, deep blues”.
In 1964, after hearing Slim Harpo's “Baby Scratch My Back” on WABeatleC, Ned rubbed two nickels together and bought his first Hohner marine band harmonica, laying down the saxophone he had been playing since 1959.
By '66 he was fronting his own band called The Carnival of Soul and wound up on TV in Newark with the Chiffons. After passing up an opportunity with Kama Sutra Records, he began digging deep for the roots of rock & soul and found the blues; Muddy, Wolf, Walter and Sonny Boy.
"What a long strange and wonderful trip it has been".
Ned remembers digging Albert King who opened many a show at the Fillmore East in the 60's, then later, in the 80's, playing elbow to elbow with legend on stage at the old Lone Star Cafe.
Ned claims very seriously of the blues, “I’m lucky to have found an outlet for my pain and confusion. I can let go of it man... not a lot of people are that fortunate”.
Then admitting with a wink says he, “should have stayed playing baseball during the 60’s”.
Today, Nasty Ned the performer, writer, promoter, visual artist, media personality, bidnessman and long time show-host of American Roots Live, continues to realize his vision of a celebration of American roots music.
Through six decades of "doin' the do", Ned still breathes for the creative process, is always ready for anything and is a blues man to his soul.
Nasty Ned has lived the blues. He has become the blues and has risen out of the blues. He now says simply, he is enriched and "honored to have found the fathers of the joyous noise and to let burn eternal their spirit in my soul and my style".
