MuddCats
"Good, Bad, N' Blue"

Review
By John Vermilyea (Blues Underground Network)

It is always nice when I get the opportunity to review a CD of a group from my hometown, especially when the CD is Blues and it is as good as this one.

Muddcats "Good, Bad, N' Blue" really is a homegrown effort with all the songs being written by the Muddcats front men Brad Davis & David J. Piggin. Brad and David are also in on the Cover Art and Photo's along with Michelle Davis, and longtime Volunteer Photogragher of the old Blues Underground Network (Kamloops Chapter), Barbara Zimonick. The CD was also recorded in Kamloops, at Awdio Empire.

The first track on Muddcats "Good, Bad, N' Blue" is called "Low Down Dirty Shame", and it sums up my feelings about the CD, because it really is a Low Down Dirty Shame that Good, Bad, N' Blue did not get the attention it deserved especially on a national scale.

"Low Down Dirty Shame" was a great choice for the first track and it was one of my favorites and I believe it was the one most played on the air waves.

Track 2 "Doubletimin'", Track 3 "Down To The River", and Track 4 "Black Widow Baby", continue to move the CD along that keep you in a good foot tappin' mood. To me, they are reminiscent of Steve Ray Vaughn Songs. Beautiful Guitar Work & Lyrics. (Going Down To The River To Wash Away The Blues).

Track 5 "If I had A Dollar" and Track 6 "Good, Bad, N' Blue" is where they slow the tempo down a bit and turn up the emotion that comes from singing about blues, especially those blues that comes from the grand illusion that love can sometimes envelope us in, especially if it is love lost or gone bad.

The second half of "Good, Bad, N' Blue" is just as enjoyable and impressive as the first with highlights for me being, Track 9 "If I Have The Blues", & Track 12 "Watermelon Wine" with the magical work of Kamloops Own Master Musician Gary Gagne on Sax, & Track 10 "Best I Can" with the masterful guitar solo's from David J. Piggin and Dan Sezebel Jr.

Although the MuddCats have gone through a few changes since "Good, Bad, N' Blue" was released, the line-up for this CD, were as follows:

Vocals: Brad Davis
Guitar: David J. Piggin
Guitar & Drums: Dan Sezebel Jr.
Drums: Brad Klenk
Bass: Terry Strudwick
Saxophone: Gary Gagne
Harmonica: David J. Piggin

All in all "Good, Bad, N' Blue" is a masterful debut for the Muddcats and a pure pleasure to have in my collection and listen to.
