Kirsten Thien "Delicious"

They say when you have all the right ingredients together and mix and cook them all in the right way, you tend to windup with something Delicious. Such is the case with Kirsten Thien's Sultry and Sexy release, tastefully named, "Delicious".

"Delicious" marks the 3rd release for this Award Winning Songwriter, who received the Abe Olman Award for Excellence in Songwriting in 2009, which after hearing this Album, you will certainly know why.

Kirsten Thien was born on an Army Base in Germany but shortly after her family moved back to the States, settling in Maine. Her style of music was starting its process of development with singing in church and listening to Linda Ronstadt. Soon after while attending  "Georgetown University in Washington, D.C", she discovered the magic of Aretha Franklin and the sound of  great female blues singers of the 20's. Not long after the Allure of performing live out weighed her pursuit of a career in banking and Kirsten moved to New York where she proceeded to form a band, continued writing and put out her Debut Album in 2001, "She Really Is". By 2005 Kirsten began re-working her songwriting, leaning more towards a Memphis Sound, and also began really concentrating and working on her Guitar Skills, as well.

"Delicious" consists of 13 Tracks, 8 of which were written or co-written by Kirsten. Her co-writers on this Album were Eric Boyd, Noel Cohen, and Galia Arad. "Delicious" also contains 3 absolutely fabulous Covers, "Taxi Love" (Charlie Feldman/Jon Tiven), "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues" (Ida Cox), "I Ain't Superstitious" (Willie Dixon) and 2 Tracks of which she does as the Radio Edit, "Treat 'im Like a Man"/"Taxi Love". Also on the Album I received was a DVD video of "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues" with guest performer Billy Gibson.

"Delicious" starts off pretty hot n heavy and if you are not careful you may begin feeling like a bit of a voyeur, especially when listening to her steamy vocals on the Track "Taxi Love", a song about a man a woman and a taxi, I am sure you get the picture. This song hits us hot off the heels of the previous Track "Please Drive" featuring Hubert Sumlin letting loose on Guitar and Vocals, as Kirsten shows us how temptuous young ladies can be.

Besides the soulful/jazzy feeling Thien brings to "Delicious", there is also that Bluesy feel as well, especially with the Tracks "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues" and "I Ain't Superstitious". "Wild Women Don't Have the Blues" is done will Harmonica great Billy Gibson and really does justice to the Ida Cox Cover. "I Ain't Superstitious" would bring the house down if it was seen live especially when Arthur Neilson kicks his guitar into high gear with his Solo work on that Track.

Before Kirsten Thien repeats songs on her last two Tracks as Radio Edits, she puts it all together for a great finale with "Get Outta the Funk, Get Into the Groove". No slow stuff on this one, just "straight ahead I don't need to hear your problems" Groovin' Guitar.

After listening to "Delicious", their will be a lot of things certain to you, and those are that Kirsten Thien is the total package with a great voice, outstanding writing skills, and a pretty darn good guitar player to boot. With this Album, Thien' has managed once again to serve up a tasty treat of music that shows us all why she is simply "Delicious".

A very good and highly recommended Album from an exceptional talent.
