Kat Danser
"Somethin' Familiar"

Kat Danser has a certain special something that remains long after you hear her music. Maybe it’s her outstanding and unique voice, her skillful songwriting or her wicked lap slide guitar playing. Or maybe, it’s her raw and gutsy honesty that leaves the lasting impression. Regardless, Kat waters the roots of blues music while bringing it smack dab into the 21st century!

Her newest recording, Somethin’ Familiar, is a richly textured exploration of ‘sin and salvation’. It offers beautiful production and arrangements complimenting Kat’s sassy and sensitive songwriting as well as her deep, resonant voice. Featured on this album are multiple Juno award winner, Steve Dawson, and the vocals of legendary, Linda Tillery. She is a national touring and recording artist, based in Edmonton, Alberta.

CRITICAL PRAISE FOR KAT

"The Saskatchewan-born singer-guitarist is responsible for the 11 songs that fill out Somethin' Familiar, her impressive, arresting second release...with the combined forces of stellar musicians and the moving strength of her deep voice, Danser has come up with one of the best sounding roots music albums in recent memory, a release that should certainly win her attention far beyond Alberta."
Roger Levesque (Edmonton Journal)

"Kat Danser has developed a unique expression of music that finds blues, roots and gospel at its core. She generates a powerful sound based on early acoustic roots and blues musicians yet with all the sensibilities of contemporary stylings."
The Georgia Straight (Vancouver)

“Intricate melodies in minor keys. Superb and delicate musicianship. Original and lovely heartfelt lyrics. Put them all together and you get this album (Somethin’ Familiar), with eleven beautifully crafted songs. Filled with melancholy and longing, they are a tribute to Kat’s songwriting skills.”
George Walichnowski, Manitoba Blues Society

“Somethin’ Familiar overflows with richly textured tunes reflecting Danser’s striking ability to pen stellar melodies and compelling stories. She aimed to strip away ‘blues fusion’ an amalgam that often passes for authentic blues these days and her tunes show her innate ability to do just that. (4.5 of 5 Stars)”
Mark Weber – Red Deer Express

"Question: can the spirit of a child be crushed or is it just delayed? ...The answer is: delayed for decades but worth the wait. Luckily for us, Danser rediscovered her musical bent about eight years ago and her new release, Somethin' Familiar, has rich production with don benedictson steering the ship." Cam Hayden, SEE Magazine

"I really love this disc (Somethin' Familiar)...this is the one I've wanted her to make...gritty, bluesy and real." Tom Coxworth – CKUA Radio

"Kat Danser has come up with an absolutely wonderful CD in Somethin' Familiar. As usual, she is in fine vocal form and her songwriting is simply terrific!"
Rita MacNeil

“Kat’s music is raw and honest. Reminds me of a young Odetta.”
Eric Bibb
