Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys
"Salt Glazed Blues" (EP)

I give this EP, my highest rating, Five *****
Excellent EP...  Thoroughly enjoyed it...  Highly Recommended...

"Salt Glazed Blues" is an absolute hit, with four dynamite tracks, two originals and two covers that will only leave you wanting more.
Magnificent musicianship combined with the vocals of Graham Sells, whom I consider one of the most unique sounding Blues/Rocks singers now going,
Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys deliver us Blues/Rock the way it was meant to be delivered, straight ahead, no prisoners taken.

"Don't Lie To Me Baby" is the best song I have heard all year, and "Salt Glazed Blues" is by far the Best EP I have had the
pleasure of receiving this year.

Can't wait to hear more from Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys

Review By Grahame Rhodes

Here’s a lively offering from the Stoke-on-Trent / Congleton band, Cry Baby And The Hoochie Coochie Boys – namely Graham Sells (vocals/guitar), Rob Wilkinson (harmonica/vocals), Vince Cutcliffe (guitar), John Davies (keyboards), Trevor Pinson (bass) and Andy Carr (drums) – together they serve up four varied tracks on the “Salt Glazed Blues” EP – with definite shades of British blues favourites Nine Below Zero and Dr. Feelgood.

The tracks were recorded at Tremelo Studios in Stoke-on-Trent, and kick off with the rocking original “Don’t Lie To Me Baby”, powered by some chunky guitar work and Rob Wilkinson’s impressive harmonica playing, with Graham Sells vocal having touches of the late, great Lee Brilleaux in it.

The boys take the pace down on “Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues” – a nod to the blues greats, with the likes of BB King, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and Elmore James getting a name-check – more fine harmonica here, on this Graham Sells song, and nice organ work from John Davies.

The remaining two songs are both covers – the afore-mentioned Nine Below Zero’s “Soft Touch”, a rolling blues rocker with nice band performance, closing with a ‘beefed up’ take on J.B. Lenoir’s “Gimme One More Shot” – delivered at a breakneck speed, and back into the Dr. Feelgood territory – which certainly works for me!

I get the impression the guys have a ball playing and I would imagine are a blast live, as they say themselves, “we have all been around the block a few times but our love of the blues has bonded us together.”

Tracklist

1.Don't Lie To Me Baby 5:11
2.Ain't Nothin' But the Blues 5:23
3.Soft Touch 3:58
4.Gimme One More Shot 3:37

About Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys

Rob 'Cry Baby' Wilkinson rounded up The Hoochie Coochie Boys in the summer of 2008, to form a six piece dance floor rhythm and blues band. The band is based in the Stoke-On-Trent area of the UK (famously known as the Potteries). Rob and the Boys (Mr. G - Graham Sells, Vince Cutcliffe, Johnny 'Fingers' Davies, Trevor Pinson & Andy Carr) have all been involved in a variety of bands over the years, but have developed a real bond through their love of the blues.

Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys are a live band who perform best when they are delivering uptempo rhythm and blues to an audience. The live shows include both original numbers and some classic R&B given the Hoochie Coochie Boys treatment.

Rob's wailing harmonic is the signature for the band, hence the 'Cry Baby' tag which defines the rootsy bluesy sound that makes up Cry Baby and The Hoochie Coochie Boys.
