Blueville "Butterfly
Blues"
"Merging different styles into a
new and exciting sound landscape" is one of the descriptions used for
the music on "Butterfly Blues", the newest release from the band simply
called Blueville and is in my opinion, certainly the most accurate way to
describe this bands amazing
music.
Blueville hail from Italy and consists
of 5 members, Mario Percudani (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Marco Tansini (Lead
Guitar), Paolo "Apollo" Negri (Keyboards), Gianni Grecchi (Bass Drums),
and Angelo Roveda (Drums). Also on Blueville is a wide assortment of
Guests on various tracks, mainly additional singers, which included
Sherrita Duran, Simoneblue, Elisa Paganelli, Martha Tansini, Silvia
Molinari, Patti Rossi, and New Sisters Choir, as well as Guest
Instrumentalists Gianni Satta (Flugelhorn), Massimo Damelli (Percussion)
and Alberto Venturini (Percussions). Additionally, band member Marco
Tansini does Vocals on Track 15, the title track, "Butterfly Blues".
Marco Tansini also produced and mixed "Butterfly Blues", as well as, wrote
all the songs except for Track 9 "Blues From The Edge Of Town" which
he co-wrote the music with fellow member Mario Percudani, with lyrics
credited to guest Vocalist Simoneblue and Track 12 "Turning Blue", which
was written by also by Mario
Percudani.
I really did not have any luck finding
any decent amounts of info about Blueville on the net, other then a
somewhat bare MySpace page and a few small pages on their Record Label
website. It always perplexes me, especially in these days of
Facebook, Reverbnation, Etc., as why some bands just don't take full
advantage of creating a good Internet presence for themselves,
especially as band like Blueville whom have been together since 2006.
So as with a few other bands I have come across, my first and sometimes
only introduction comes by way of simply putting their CD in the player
and start listening, in which I quickly become thoroughly
impressed or somewhat less impressed. "Butterfly Blues" fell on the
former with thoroughly impressing the heck out of
me.
"Butterfly Blues" mesmerized me from
the opening Track "When I Ring The Bell", to the final notes of the last
Track "Butterfly Blues". I found the music on "Butterfly Blues" to be
superbly refreshing in it's interpretation of the Blues which it
masterfully interlaced with bits of Jazz, Classical, and Rock, something
that I did not expect from an Italian band, although I should have known,
from previous music sent to me from Italy, that they certainly have a good
grasp on, lets say American Style
music.
"Butterfly Blues" is not the kind of
music you get up and dance your feet off to, it is much more refined then
that. It is the type of music that grabs your attention in a much more
subtle way and basically says to you, please sit down and enjoy, which
believe me you
will.
One will, I am sure, find many
comparisons to music from the 70's on "Butterfly Blues", I for one got a
little Allman Brothers and Grateful Dead out of it and I also got the
impression that I was hearing a lot of other great styles from that era,
but due to it's uniqueness of sound, I could not pick out many
more specific bands it sounded like. I did however get a slight bit
of "Money For Nothing" on Track 6 "Indian Road" and a little Don Ray Band
sound as well, especially with the fabulous Vocals of Mario Percudani. One
thing I noticed right away, concerning Mario Percudani, was the lack of
Italian accent he had while singing, in fact I would have swore that he
was an American or Canadian singer if I did not know
different.
Instrumentally, "Butterfly Blues" was
extraordinary with great performances by all band members and no less of a
treat was also all the great Guest Vocalists peppered throughout. Another
great thing about "Butterfly Blues" was the fact that it was well over 70
minutes in length, which is equal to almost two Albums from some groups I
have listened to recently. Of the 15 Tracks, you will only come across one
song that is under 4 minutes and that is the last track, "Butterfly
Blues".
"Butterfly Blues" was a wonderful
introduction to Blueville, a band I really really hope continue to put out
this kind of captivating music and an album I ethusiastically give my
highest rating of 5***** to. Highly Recommended and Thoroughly
Enjoyed.
