Barry Campbell Band "Ballad Of A Ne'er Do Well"
|
When I get a new CD in the mailbox from an artist whom I know little about and for whom I can not find that much info on the net concerning that artist, I don't hold out a lot of hope of that particular CD being that good. That however was not the case with the Barry Campbell Band's Debut Release, "Ballad Of A Ne'er Do Well". Now mind you I would of liked a little more info on the Barry Campbell Band and being able to find a nice pic or any pic for that matter of the CD Cover, would of been nice, it still did not detrack from the fact that "Ballad Of A Ne'er Do Well", is one pretty good album. The Barry Campbell Band hail out of Edmonton, Alberta in Canada and consists of Barry Campbell (Vocals/Guitar), Humbet Medeiros (Bass), and Jeff Lisk (Percussion). Additional Members on this CD were Graham Guest (Piano/Organ). The Barry Campbell Band play what would be considered a meld of Blues mixed in with a little tinge of Reggae. This makes for a very original and fresh sound and like a finely tuned 57 Chevy this band has no problem firing on all pistons offering their listeners a not stop smorgasbord of great blues with lots of exciting twists and turns thrown in for good measure. I must say that all in all, I was very pleasantly suprised on how good this CD was and I was also very proud that once again a Canadian Blues Band had managed to show me just how diverse and huge the Blues scene is up here. I Highly Recommend "Ballad Of A Ne'er Do Well" and feel that with a little more promo, this band and CD will do very well... About Barry Campbell Band Barry Campbell began playing guitar at the age of 14. Bitten by the blues bug at an early age, Barry devoured any blues disk he could get a hold of and began developing a style all of his own. Gradually, the blues gave way to soul and reggae music and Barry successfully merged his influences into his sound today, a hard-edged, guitar heavy smorgasbord of music. Barry Campbell has been playing around Edmonton and Alberta for a number of years, as a member several bands such as: Latinoblue, Refinery Row and Big, Bad & Blue. Barry has performed with such artists as Eddie Clearwater, Maurice John Vaughn, Jimmy Burns, Smokin' Joe Kubrick, Eddie Vaan Shaw Jr and many others. Drawing on diverse influences such as: Toots and the Maytalls, Freddy King, Bob Marley, Gov't Mule, Peter Tosh and Magic Sam, the band keeps dance floors packed everywhere they go. Barry is in the midst of recording his debut CD which is expected in May 2010. After having recently gone into the studio to cut a few tracks with renound Chicago Blues artist, Jimmy Burns, he is excited to return to the studio to complete the long overdue project. http://www.myspace.com/barrycampbellband
